Hi!
I’m Elisabeth Biström, a Swedish watercolour artist based in Norrtälje, north of Stockholm.
My art is about finding joy and awe in the small things. It’s a gentle reminder of not rushing past all the interesting and beautiful moments that surround us. That’s what I hope to share with you through my paintings.
Nobel Prize diplomas
Since 2022, I’ve had the honour of being commissioned to paint the Nobel Prize diplomas in Chemistry and Physics and the Economy Prize, on behalf of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the Nobel Foundation.
The 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded Carolyn R.Bertozzi, Morten Meldal and K. Barry Sharpless “for the development of click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry”.
I wanted to pay tribute to their work by making the diploma artwork into a kind of “click-triptych”: three paintings that can be joined toghether in any order – similar to molecules joined through click chemistry.
Each one of the Nobel Prize laureates is awarded a prize sum, a golden medal and a hand written and leather bound diploma with an original artwork.

In 2023 the Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Pierre Agostini, Anne L’Huillier and Ferenc Krausz “for experimental methods that generate attosecond pulses of light for the study of electron dynamics in matter“
The light dancing over the surface of the ocean might not be as brief as an attosecond, but I found the motif fit for celebrating this achievment nevertheless.
The assignment to make the artwork for the diplomas spans over three years, which means that 2024 is my final year as a Nobel Prize diploma artist. It has been a great honour.

More of my paintings
I am a full time fine artist and I spend most of my days in my studio, working on a painting or three. Sometimes the work is self-initiated and sometimes commissioned.
I take on a few commissions a year, both for private customers that want a special piece for their home or perhaps as a gift for a loved one, and for editorial use, like book or magazine covers.
Here’s a few examples of what my work can look like.
